Album 1 features Pink Floyds then-current live set, album 2 includes solo compositions and performances by each member of the band. Ummagumma is Pink Floyds first double-album with one of their most iconic cover images. In closing I just want to reiterate that that if this is indicative of how this reissue campaign is beginning, I expect more delights to come! The cover and Lp are perfect in most every way, and of course it sounds amazing! The legendary Bernie Grundman had his hand in these reissues and it pleasingly shows! Ummagumma is the fourth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in 1969. It would be a 10/10 except the second album, although striking and very interesting, would not be my first recommendation to someone just getting into Floyd for the first time. So outside of giving a content review of the songs themselves, I wanted to assess the overall quality of this reissue, and I put a definite 9/10 on this one. Far more detailed on every passage, often to the point that it has thrown sounds out that I think are coming from someplace other than the stereo! I am more than thrilled to have this as a new “go to” version, unless I find a minty affordable UK pressing. This reissue however is BRILLIANT! compared to my original. Lp 2: Studio… This has always been a very “gotta be in the mood for it” type of production, as I feel it’s more of a soundscape performance than a truly song oriented album. I found this live cut to be a far better listen than I remember. 2016 EU reissue on 180g LPA fan favorite ever since its release in 1969, the double-album Ummagumma gives Pink Floyd fans the best of both worlds.

Lp 1: The live album… Although this live album, recorded at Mothers Club, Birmingham on 27 April 1969 and the following week at Manchester College of Commerce on 2 May of the same year wan’t a sonic masterpiece to begin with, this remaster certainly gives slightly more detail in my view than my original, plus its dead silent where my original is not, even though I have a nearly mint original. After a good initial cleaning, I dropped the needle on the album and proceeded to be amazed at what I feel wasn’t a very detailed recording, nor of their best work to begin with. Ummagumma is a music studio album recording by PINK FLOYD (Psychedelic/Space Rock/Progressive Rock) released in 1969 on cd, lp / vinyl and/or cassette. I play my albums on a Technics SL-L20 linear tracking turntable with an Onkyo receiver and two solid Pioneer HPM-60 speakers.Īgain, this album came flat, with perfect vinyl all the way around, and definitely 180g. listen, but it was never my top rated Floyd album outside of the live disc that I feel is most essential. I have an original US version on the Harvest label to compare it to, which I found to be an O.K.

Go figure!Īnyway, I will begin my review by saying that “Ummagumma” arrived in fine order from SoundStage Direct, with perfectly flat vinyl and a noise free play.

I intended to begin my reviews of the new Pink Floyd 2016 reissue vinyl with their first album “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” but alas, the first one from the first four to arrive happens to be the last of the chronological four.
